Home Solutions focuses on the digital transformation of the large, growing, and rapidly digitizing home services industry. We’re building a future where homeowners connect with providers free of friction, and providers build better and more profitable businesses.

About the Role

We’re looking to add freelance writers to a team that focuses on providing commercial content (reviews of services and products and informational articles) for a website that targets a luxury audience and aspirational consumers willing to pay a premium for products and services.

Writing tasks and projects will include updating current articles (which we refer to as refreshes) on the website and producing 2–4 new pieces of content per week as needed. Industries will include the following but are not limited to:

-Moving
-Gutters and Gutter Guards
-Windows
-Home Warranty
-Lawn
-Pest Control
-HVAC
-Roofing
-Solar
-General Home Improvement

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking to hire 4–6 freelance writers who can contribute at least 2–4 articles (word count per article ranges from 1,500–6,000+) per week in one or two home improvement categories, as well as updates to current live articles.

*We want experienced writers who are passionate about researching and writing original content that will compel our readers. We’re not looking for someone who will produce cookie-cutter articles and call it a day.

You must also be willing to edit/update articles based on our editors’ feedback/comments.

Our Ideal Candidate/Qualifications

An individual with an undergraduate degree in English, journalism, creative writing, or communications who has an understanding of SEO best practices and is based in the United States. This person will also have:

-3+ years experience with commercial writing/affiliate marketing
-An understanding of one or more of the home improvement categories listed above and the nuances that accompany the trade
-An understanding of SEO content writing
-Attention to detail, excellent grammar, and strong self-editing skills
-Experience with the Chicago Manual of Style and AP Style Book
-Good communication skills (be willing to jump on video calls for face-to-face meetings with the lead editor)
-Experience with adding E-E-A-T (Experience-Expertise- Authoritativeness-Trustworthiness) in content
-Tech-savvy (i.e., can use Google Docs, WordPress, Airtable, Slack, etc.)
-The ability to turn around an assigned piece under minimal instruction under various time constraints
-The flexibility to adapt to new projects/pivots in direction
-The flexibility to adjust their writing style to meet the brand voice and guidelines

Compensation
Budget ranges from .10/word to .15/word depending on the writer’s experience.

Do You Need to Have Experience With Home Improvement? 
Yes, unless you have extensive experience in commercial content writing/affiliate marketing and a willingness to learn the ins and outs of a home improvement category quickly.

We have a high editorial standard to ensure the content produced meets and exceeds readers’ expectations through “actionable insights” that readers can take away as value for consuming our content.
